Give yourself enough time to arrive on time and relaxed. If you have been rushing and arrive stressed, then it will take longer for you to get into a relaxed state.

Health History

On your first appointment you will be required to fill out a simple health information form. So it’s a good idea to arrive 5 minutes before your scheduled appointment time.

Consultation

You may be asked questions regarding your health history. Because massage can affect multiple body systems, such as the cardiovascular and nervous systems it’s important that you are honest and open about your health.

You will also be asked questions to better design a session that will meet your needs. Outline any areas of your body that you would like worked on. If there are any areas to avoid and if there are any techniques that you don't want used. If you are concerned about undressing, then this should be discussed as well. Don't be afraid to discuss any apprehensions or concerns you have. All information you give is confidential.

The therapist will outline what will happen in the session and then leave the room so you can undress to your comfort level.

When you are ready, lie down on the massage table and cover yourself with the towel provided. The therapist will knock before re-entering.

During Your Massage

If you are receiving an Indian Head Massage you would normally be seated and fully clothed during your massage session. Otherwise you will lie on a massage table, covered by a towel. It’s important that you say if you are comfortable or not and if you don’t want an area of your body to be touched. If you are feeling discomfort with a specific technique or an area that is tight or hurting then the pressure of the massage can be adjusted to suit. Remember this is your massage and you are in charge. You can ask for changes or to stop the session at any time.

Clothing Options & Draping

I appreciate that people may be modest and I will do my best to make you feel comfortable. You will be covered with towels during your session with only the area being worked on uncovered. Typically, clients would be fully undressed when receiving a full body massage but I am fine with any undergarments you wish to keep on and will work around them, It’s important that you feel comfortable.

Music

There will normally be relaxing music playing but be sure to say if you would like quiet or just the volume adjusted. You can also bring your own music to play during your session if you would prefer.

How To Get The Most From Your Massage

You will be able to relax more deeply and will experience greater benefit if you are able to quiet your mind and keep conversation to a minimum during your session.

Notice the feeling of the massage. Your enjoyment will increase simply by focusing your attention on how the touch or technique feels.

Remember to breath as this will help you to relax. Some people will hold their breath when a sensitive area is massaged but its best to breathe through it.

After your massage

At the end of the massage you will be left to get dressed in private. Wait a few minutes on the table as you may feel light-headed. Then take your time getting ready.

You will also be offered a glass of water. It’s very important to drink plenty of water to help your body flush away all the toxins and waste products.

If possible, allow some quiet time after the massage and don't go straight back to work.

How you feel after your massage will vary depending on the style of massage and the length of the session. Feelings range from being relaxed, renewed and centered, to being invigorated, excited or experiencing a rush of clarity and insight.

The benefits of massage tend to be cumulative, so typically, you will feel better as you get additional massages.
